B2 VISA | UNITED STATES

ESTA authorization validity period

ESTA travel authorizations are valid for a limited period of time. To renew your ESTA authorization for the United States, simply complete the ESTA online form.

How long is an ESTA valid for?

ESTA authorization is initially valid for 2 years. During this period, travelers can make several visits to the United States without submitting a new application. Each stay in the U.S. must not exceed 90 days.

When is the validity period reduced?

The validity period of the ESTA may be reduced in certain situations. Here are the three main reasons for early termination of ESTA validity:

  1. When some of the personal information provided to obtain the ESTA is no longer valid. If the ESTA holder’s name, gender or nationality changes, the ESTA is no longer valid and a new ESTA application must be made using the most up-to-date personal information.
  2. When the passport used to obtain the ESTA has expired. The ESTA is linked to the passport used for the initial application. If this passport expires, the ESTA is automatically invalid. The traveler must apply for a new ESTA with the new valid passport.
  3. When the answers to the security questions in the ESTA application are no longer valid. If the answers to the personal questions on the ESTA form are no longer valid, the ESTA is no longer valid. It is necessary to re-apply for travel authorization on the official ESTA website by updating the answers to the health and safety questions on the ESTA form.

Expiration of ESTA authorization during a stay in the USA

When an ESTA authorization expires during a stay in the USA, the traveler is authorized by the American government to finish his stay in the USA within the 90-day time limit. Leaving the USA with an expired ESTA usually goes without a hitch.

On the other hand, if you plan to stay in the USA for more than 90 days, you must obtain a B2 tourist visa. Overstaying the 90-day stay limit is very unpopular with the American authorities.
